History
Our Venetian Plaster story began in Dublin in the year 1964 when brothers Giovanni and Alfredo "Freddie" Amoretti who were stucco and terrazzo workers that came from Verona Italy to work on some of the many spectacular Georgian and Palladian buildings around the city, after some months of working on these magnificent projects they took on a young Dublin lad by the name of Thomas Doolin, to work as a labourer and eventually an apprentice, where Doolin learnt the many techniques and teachings of these master stuccodors.
After 6 years becoming very close with the brothers and a master in his own right, he was asked to move to Italy to work with his now equals. Doolin had to decline due to family commitments but continued to carry out his trade on the island of Ireland for many years using the 100% natural Marmorino lime and marble plaster the Amoretti's had thought him, unfortunately the introduction of synthetic paints in the 1970s seen the desire for the more exclusive finishing plaster less sought out, though he had mastered a distinctive skill Doolin was bound by a forgotten craft.
In 2005 however Doolin’s son Cormac took the initiative to follow in his fathers’ footsteps and learned the classic techniques from his father and contemporary styles from the modern Italian stuccodors while working in the UK over 7 years. In 2012 Cormac Doolin came back to Dublin and launched Palladio Decor named after the most famous Venetian architect Andrea Palladio who in the renaissance revolutionised the Marmorino Stucco used originally by Romans thus creating Venetian Plaster as seen in the many spectacular original buildings throughout Venice still to this day.
Palladio Decor has been on the incline year after year and now we also incorporate Microcement from Germany and Spain as one of our specialist applications which also complements the more minimal van der Rhoe style design choice.
